چکیده

We examine the transmission of small and moderately large internal gravity wavepackets through uniformly and nonuniformly stratified fluids using fully nonlinear numerical simulations. The simulations of finite-amplitude waves in a uniformly stratified fluid show that the weakly nonlinear theory developed for horizontally periodic wavepackets extends well to the dynamics of wavepackets with horizontal extent comparable to the horizontal wavelength. In simulations of small-amplitude wavepackets in a nonuniformly stratified fluid the transmission coefficient is found to be comparable to that computed analytically for horizontally periodic waves that radiate continuously nontransiently on a reflection level. Simulations of finite-amplitude waves in a nonuniformly stratified fluid show little dependence of transmission coefficient on the wavepacket extent. However, for a wide range of incident wave frequencies the simulations exhibit a monotonic increase in the transmission coefficient as a function of the incident wave amplitude. © 2008 American Institute of Physics. An Efficient Algorithm for General 3D-Seismic Body Waves (SSP and VSP Applications)

Abstract The ray series method may be generalized using a ray centered coordinate system for general 3D-heterogeneous media. This method is useful for Amplitude Versus Offset (AVO) seismic modeling, seismic analysis, interpretational purposes, and comparison with seismic field observations. For each central ray (constant ray parameter), the kinematic (the eikonal) and dynamic ray tracing system ...

Journal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics Magnetospheric whistler mode ray tracing in a warm background plasma with finite electron and ion temperature

Whistler mode waves play a major role in the energy dynamics of the Earth’s magnetosphere. Numerical ray tracing has been used for many years to determine the propagation trajectories of whistler mode waves from various sources, both natural and anthropogenic. Previous work has been under the ideal cold plasma assumption even though temperatures of the background ions and electrons are in the r...

Controlling the Occurrence of Rogue Waves in an Optically Injected Semiconductor Laser via Changing The Injection Strength

The rouge waves in an optically injected semiconductor lasers are receiving a lot of interest. In this work, the generating and controlling of the rogue waves in semiconductor lasers have been investigated. For this purpose, the laser’s rate equations are solved numerically in a specified time interval, then the field amplitude and the intensity versus time are calculated and analyzed. To solve...

Complex Wavenumber Rossby Wave Ray Tracing

This paper presents a methodology for performing complex wavenumber ray tracing in which both wave trajectory and amplitude are calculated. This ray-tracing framework is first derived using a scaling in which the imaginary wavenumber component is assumed to be much smaller than the real wavenumber component. The approach, based on perturbation methods, is strictly valid when this scaling condit...
